LAHORE – Speaker National Assembly Fehmida Mirza said on Sunday that corruption and other cases against PPP men were politically motivated, a fact that had also been acknowledged by two major parties, the PPP and the PML-N in the Charter of Democracy (CoD).
Talking to reporters at the residence of PML-N leader Sardar Ayyaz Sadiq, which he visited to condole the death of his father-in-law, Justice (r) Sardar Muhammad Iqbal, Fehmida said the issue of NRO beneficiaries would be settled in courts.
She said as far as cases against the PPP men were concerned, it should be noted that they were politically motivated, and the PPP and PML-N had already sought forgiveness from the nation for political victimisation of each other’s leaders.
To a question, she replied it was govt’s prerogative either to present the list of NRO beneficiaries in the Parliament or not since it had already been made public.
She avoided answering a question about too many cases against MQM Chief Altaf Hussain, which had earlier been dropped under the NRO.
Replying to a question, she said the parliamentary committee on constitutional reforms would submit its recommendations by the end of this year after concluding deliberations on various controversial clauses including 17th Amendment.
