Umaga Death
Friends of Edward “Umaga” Fatu were on Twitter last night expressing disbelief over what happened.
The first one to break the news was Ken Anderson who posted a tweet telling fans to say a prayer for Umaga. Bobby Lashley - who he wrestled at WrestleMania 23 - followed next with the same message.
“I’m very thankful to have had a private closed-door conversation with Ecki prior to our match a few days ago in Sydney,” wrote Anderson later. “He insisted that we go out and tear the house down. We both had something to prove that night and in my opinion: Mission Accomplished! Our thoughts and prayers.”
Shane “Hurricane” Helms simply posted, “Heartbroken. No words,” and then posted a photo of him, Edge, Matt Hardy and Umaga all standing next to each other.
TNA’s Jeremy Borash tweeted after hearing the news of Umaga’s death, “RIP Eddie Fatu,” and then TNA President Dixie Carter also sent a message saying, “On behalf of everyone at TNA, our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Fatu family.”
Former WWE Divas Torrie Wilson, Ashley Massaro and Lilian Garcia also used Twitter. “Much love my friend. Much love,” Torrie said while attaching a photo of the two together.
“Just heard news about Eddie aka Umaga. So sad. Loved him. Prayers 4 him & family,” said Lilian Garcia who also posted a photo of her, Umaga, HBK, Jericho, Mysterio and Carlito.
Ashley Massaro - a very heavy Twitter user - said “I just heard about Umaga cuz my friend IM’d me, wow…I’m so sad for his family, I remember them so well, so many lil ones…so f*****g sad.”
Current WWE Diva Maria tweeted, “So sad. Eddie was a friend. He loved wrestling and was a great entertainer. My prayers go out to Eddie’s beautiful family. A great loss.”
Y2J Chris Jericho, a good friend of Umaga, was in Baghdad when he heard the news. “Eddie Fatu was an awesome guy and one of the brothers. I trusted him and that’s a rare thing for me. I am devastated. Safe travels Oos…” he said while Eric Bischoff, who he worked with just last week on the Hulkamania tour said, “My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Eddie Fatu (formerly known as Umaga). He was a great performer and a wonderful person.”
